At Mayani Farms, we’ve been practicing sustainable, eco-organic farming in the mountains of Puerto Rico for 15 years. Our mission is simple: to grow food and trees in harmony with nature while helping others build thriving, resilient farms and homesteads.
About Us
Life Before Mayani Farms
Our story together began in Southern California, where we led successful careers in biotech. Despite our achievements, we longed for a life with deeper meaning and a connection to nature. A life-altering health scare prompted us to leave the corporate world behind in 2008, and we found our true home in Puerto Rico, where the lush, vibrant landscape resonated with our vision of sustainable living.
Building Mayani Farms
After visiting most of the island, we found a secluded 15-acre property in Utuado, surrounded by breathtaking views and soil that was less than ideal for cultivating a diverse range of tropical plants and raising livestock. We spent months rehabbing the soil using a compost mixture of organic matter and animal waste.
We found a mentor, read a lot of books on sustainable agriculture in the tropics and had many trial-and-error moments. We embraced sustainable farming practices, growing fruit trees from around the tropical world and creating a farm that embodies our values of working in harmony with nature.
